Clay: A Festival of Ceramics is now in its 4th year. The event started life as one of a series of events organised by Devon Pop Ups, a small local business wanting to bring quality contemporary craft events to the area. Clay was launched as one day event in North Devon in June 2017; it was designed to honour the ceramic heritage of the region and to showcase the diversity of talented makers both locally and from across the South West.
Each year the event has grown in both size and stature with visitors and exhibitors joining us from across the UK.
This year we intended to move to Exeter Racecourse; a larger venue in a more central location to ensure greater access for all. It was also due to be a 2 day event to give more visitors the chance to join us.
Due to Covid-19 and subsequent health & safety concerns as well as restrictions we have postponed our live event to next year and are hosting an online ‘VIRTUAL’ 2 day event instead.
About the Venue (for 2021)
Exeter Racecourse is really easy to get to as it’s on the A38 just 5 miles from the end of the M5 Southbound. There’s lots of free parking when you get there too. You’ll find directions here.
We are taking over the whole of the Haldon Stand, an exhibition and conference space over two floors (there’s a lift for accessibility). The rooms are light and airy with huge windows overlooking the racecourse. If the sun is shining there are lovely balconies to enjoy a coffee and there’s air conditioning indoors to keep you comfortable. It’s a non-race weekend so we’ll have the venue to ourselves.
The team at Exeter Racecourse will be putting on a tasty spread for us all, so whether you just want coffee and cake or a big lunch, they’ll be taking care of you with a variety of options.
